Mitral and Tricuspid valve regurgitation are a serious medical condition in which the valves leak blood backward. If left untreated, it eventually leads to heart failure.

Mitral regurgitation is the most frequent valve disease in the world affecting more than 2% of general population. The current standard of care is open heart surgical repair of the valves.

Large unmet clinical need: given the growing population of elderly patients with multiple comorbidities, the risk for conventional surgery is elevated. Only a fraction of these patients undergoes open-heart surgery.

Transcatheter approaches have reduced risks and trauma associated with conventional surgery and have resulted in an improvement of quality of life for the patients.

Toufic Azar is a PhD candidate at McGill University in Mechanical Engineering. His thesis mainly focused on the rationale behind this approach. He held a FQRNT scholarship as well as a MEDA award from the dept. of mechanical engineering. He is co-inventor of this procedure.  He was  awarded for this invention the William and Rhea Seath Awards in Engineering Innovation. MEACOR has also won the McGill Dobson Cup Start-up competition . His expertise lies in design and biomedical device development. Toufic holds several patents  in the field of medical devices

Dr.  Renzo Cecere is Surgical Director of the Heart Failure and Thoracic Transplant Program and the Director of the Mechanical Cardiac Assist Program at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC).  An Associate Professor of Surgery and Chief of Cardiac Surgery at McGill University, Dr. Cecere is actively involved in teaching and in research into cardiovascular disease and treatment of heart failure. He is particularly known for his expertise in the rapidly evolving field of cardiac assistive de-vices and in particular mitral valve therapies.

Nicolas Rouhana is currently the General Manager of IM Capital, a $20M fund under USAID MENA Investment Initiative, providing Matching Capital, Equity Guarantee and Technical Assistance to early-stage businesses and investors in Lebanon. Between 2002 & 2015, Dr. Rouhana was the Executive Director of Berytech Technological Pole, counseling, and mentoring Lebanese entrepreneurs in their startup ventures. He was Associate Professor at ESIB, and the administrator of Beirut Internet Exchange Point till 2015. He currently is Vice-President of the Internet Society-Lebanon Chapter, a Board Member at Berytech, and Chairman of Speed Seed Accelerator. Dr. Rouhana holds a Telecommunications Engineering degree from the Saint Joseph University (ESIB) and a PhD in Networking Systems from Universite Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris. He is also an EDP graduate from INSEAD, France

Mr. Yared had previously served as Vice President and General Manager of Medtronic Navigation, the leading suppli-er of integrated image-guided surgery products in the world, from 2002 – 2006. He also worked at GE Medical for 10-years, where he had been Vice President of Global Marketing for the OEC Medical Sys-tems and Vice President and General Manager of GE’s European X-ray business based in Paris. Mr. Yared has an engineering degree from Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications, and an MBA from INSEAD, France.  Mr. Yared is a member of the Board of Directors for AdvaMed, MDIC, NanoWear, LightPoint Medical and CVRx.  In addition, Mr. Yared is currently the chairman of the MDIC Board of Directors and NEMSA and has recently served as the Chairman of the AdvaMed Board.
